New Crime Stoppers Program Available Online
Mitchell County Crime Stoppers have unveiled a new website and a program that will allow people to provide tips on crimes to law enforcement without revealing their identity.
The new website can be found on the internet at www.mccrimestoppers.org. It features information on recent unsolved crimes and access to a new crime reporting form. The Mitchell County Crime Stoppers board of directors recently purchased the Tipsoft program to add to their website. Sherri Linton, President of the local Crime Stoppers board said, “The new program allows a tipster to go to our website, click on the TIPS link and fill out a form with information about the crime they are reporting. The important thing about this program is that it completely removes all identifying information from the persons e-mail message including their I.P. address, e-mail or anything else that could identify the tipster.”

All tips provided through the website go directly to local law enforcement. They will follow up on the information provided. At times they may have to contact the tipster back through the internet. But again, the e-mail address, I.P. address and all other identifying information is completely removed from the message and cannot be seen by the tipster or law enforcement. The program is designed to keep all communication completely anonymous.

Linton said the Crime Stoppers board is hopeful this new technology and internet access will lead to more people getting involved and reporting what they know about criminal activity in our area. Crime Stoppers tips are completely anonymous. If information provided by a tipster leads to an arrest the person provided the information can receive a reward up to $1,000.

Mitchell County Crime Stoppers was founded in 2005 and has received tips from the public that lead to the prevention of crime and arrests.
